Diagnosis & Treatment Options
Southern Nevada Allergy offers two scheduling methods for the initial build-up phase of allergy shots. The long-established traditional immunotherapy protocol requires one or two allergy shot appointments every week for 3-6 months. Patients schedule appointments for days when they can stay for 30 minutes after the shot to be observed for adverse effects. At each office visit, they receive a slightly higher dose than the time before until the highest maintenance dose is attained.
A more progressive protocol we offer is Cluster Immunotherapy, which takes just 6-8 weeks because patients receive 2-3 rounds of injections per office visit.
Once the maintenance dose is reached with either protocol, the dose remains unchanged unless your allergy specialist determines a modification would be beneficial. Shots are spaced out to every 2-4 weeks according to a schedule customized just for you. Most patients require maintenance injections for 3-5 years. While improvement is likely within the first year of immunotherapy, long-term success requires sticking with the program as long as your doctor recommends.
